Marie Curry, one of the museum’s first curators, holds a teacup in the McKinley Gallery, which houses the largest collection of McKinley-related artifacts in the world. The museum’s founders created this space to honor the legacy of the 25th president of the United States. To better identify with Canton’s presidential heritage, the museum became a presidential library in 2003.

When designing the new building, museum officials traveled to hundreds of museums across the country to gather ideas. The Hoover-Price Planetarium was part of the museum’s original design. The exterior of the planetarium dome was camouflaged with a flat roof so it did not visually compete with the McKinley National Memorial.
